Salt

It used to be that there were two kinds of salt in the supermarket when I was growing up. The big box and the small box. But lately, everywhere I turn, there are more and more different varieties of salt on the shelves. And I just have to wonder - what’s the big deal? Are glossy magazines and cooking shows and retailers trying to make our lives just that much more difficult? Italy, with its 7,600 kilometres of coastline is, unsurprisingly, one of Europe’s biggest salt producers. Dany Mitzman went to the capital, Rome, to discover if the designer salt craze is just a marketing gimmick…
